The problem

Every exam period, the exam office has to produce a datesheet without clashes, share invigilation duties across the faculty, seat every student, and then publish all of it to students and staff.

What was built

A generator builds the datesheet, the duties and the seating plans from the university's data. The exams portal at exams.thapar.edu publishes them: students see their own datesheet, and staff manage availability, duties and roles.

What it does

  1. Generates exam datesheets, invigilation duties and seating plans, in sync with the university ERP
  2. Students sign in to see their own datesheet and can subscribe to it as a calendar
  3. Teachers mark the days they can't invigilate, or sign up for paid duties, in each exam period
  4. Several exam periods can run at once, each with its own days, slots, deadline and approval
  5. A staff console for teachers, heads of department, the exam office and administrators, with a log of every change
  6. Everything a browser sends is checked again on the server, with session limits, per-account rate limits and account locks
